Know
where your food comes from
Grow
food in your community
Don’t
truck it in or out – compost!
If your food isn’t locally
grown then you probably don’t
know enough about where it came from. Global food systems can be
dangerous and environmentally destructive.
Local food systems increase connections with the people who grow
and raise your food through farmers’ markets and grocers
who make it a priority to buy from Ontario farmers. Local food
systems
mean the best farmland in Ontario won’t be turned into real
estate and family farms can survive.
Local food systems are also about
growing food in the city, in community gardens and through urban
agriculture, and about completing
the growing
cycle with composting in backyards, apartment buildings and
offices.
