How Do I Put Food First?
The world is facing a food crisis of staggering proportions. The
World Watch Institute has alerted us to the global catastrophe
that 1.1 billion people go to sleep hungry every night and 1.1
billion suffer from obesity, diabetes, anorexia and diet-related
illnesses. These aren’t just "social" problems
that start and end somewhere else. Food is your problem.
The crisis
of food insecurity and food risk is systemic. Each individual problem
is connected to all the others. Because food is a personal issue as well as a social and political one, the Field to Table Campaign
is about individual choice as well as the ways in which we can help
to change the system through three fundamental principles: Eat
it; Grow it; Share it – Put Food First.
The Field to Table Campaign allows us to change
the world while we’re
changing ourselves and promotes a growing consciousness about the
importance of what and how we eat. Field to Table expresses an
idea of how all the steps in the way food is grown — in the
field
— on what kind of farm, how it is distributed and sold, to
the way it
is purchased, cooked and shared — at the table — add
up to be an integral part of our lives.
By putting food first you can make personal choices that will contribute
directly to building a social and political movement. You can
join any number of community initiatives such as the Good Food Box
right
in your neighbourhood.
