Donor Snapshots Thank You to both hands and Quince Bistro for generously raising almost $20,000 for FoodShare!
A special thanks to an amazing group of four dedicated women and to the incredibly generous Quince Bistro for a fantastic 2011 fundraising event that raised much-needed funds for FoodShare. On May 4th, 2011, an amazing dinner was organized at one of Toronto's best restaurants, Quince Bistro on Yonge Street. An incredible amount - just under $20,000 - was raised in one night (!) for FoodShare through ticket sales, a silent auction and a live auction. (Take a look at the great photos of the event published by SNAP Toronto here.) Jennie Wilson, Jennifer Gittins, Johanna Preston and Beth Dangerfield are a group of friends who have energy, creativity, passion and dedication and have created both hands, which raises money for local charities. Drawn together by common personal and professional interests and friendship, both hands is a group of four women invested in the community and determined to bring about change. Last year they raised funds for the Weekend to End Breast Cancer, and this year, they chose to raise funds for FoodShare and we are so grateful to them for their efforts. There are many deep personal and business relationships between both hands and Quince Bistro, and the May 4th event had the support of the entire restaurant. All of us at FoodShare were so moved that everyone in the Quince Bistro community got involved, from the restaurant owners to suppliers who made donations of product for the meal, to cooks and servers who volunteered their time on the night of the event. A special thanks to chefs Mike Van den Winkel, Jennifer's husband and Peter Tompkins, Jennie's husband.
And just two weeks later the amazing chefs and owners of Quince Bistro were back to help FoodShare out again at our annual Recipe for Change event at St. Lawrence Market North, serving a Gnocchi dish that was a definite crowd favourite. So to Jennie, Jennifer, Johanna and Beth and everyone at Quince Bistro, our profound thanks from FoodShare Toronto!
Youth Philanthropy Initiative
These students from Scarlett Heights Secondary School picked FoodShare as their charity to represent in a competition at their school through the Youth Philanthropy Initiative. They made a moving presentation about our work, won the competition and as a result won a $5000 donation to FoodShare which is very much appreciated! Susan Butler, our volunteer coordinator supported their process, and is pictured with them after accepting the cheque for us.
