COMMUNITY GARDENING PROGRAM

Since 1986 FoodShare has been helping community groups and individuals to start and sustain community gardens. We do not run any community gardens ourselves but rather we seek to educate groups and individuals on the aspects of community garden implementation.

To this end we have developed a community gardening manual, a month by month garden start-up toolkit and in partnership with the Toronto Community Garden Network and the Toronto Community Food Animators we offer a yearly community garden leadership course on starting and sustaining a community garden.

Another important aspect of our program is to advocate with all levels of government and with private and public foundations for land for more community gardens and for the resources to create and sustain them.  We are a founding member of the Toronto Community Garden Network (TCGN) which encourages and advocates on behalf of gardeners throughout Toronto.
