Education is a strong focus at FoodShare. Our training is based on the "to do is to learn" principle, incorporating hands-on involvement when possible. Workshops are often structured on a "train-the-trainer" model- teaching individuals and agency staff who can then take the information back to their groups.

Since we believe that collective action and food are a powerful combination, much of our training focuses on getting successful group projects going based around cooking and growing food. In our society, these functions are increasingly relegated to industrialized sectors, so skills associated with the simple act of cooking a meal or planting a garden are being lost. We are working to help to revive respect for these skills, and to make them available as tools to promote individual and community growth.
