FoodShare Toronto is seeking a passionate and creative

Field to Table Schools Garden Program Development and Outreach Staff

A gardener and educator with a strong understanding of the benefits of school and community gardening, comfortable with public speaking and possessing a working knowledge of gardening, composting and community development for our Field to Table Schools program.

Detailed Job Description:

  • Structure garden activities that support the maintenance and growth of the school garden but, more importantly, provide children with hands-on learning activities

  • Develop formal learning activities and resources to integrate health promotion education into classroom activities and to bring the classroom outside.

  • Develop structured outdoor classroom activities, so teachers and students will be able to participate in garden club activities, as a means of promoting physical activity, providing informal learning and reducing stress for children.

  • Liase with local agencies to ensure garden activities can be continued throughout the summer in the garden.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated interest and understanding of gardening and composting.

  • Enthusiastic and engaging for both students and teachers

  • Experience working with children.

  • Ability to plan and facilitate workshops and meetings

  • Strong oral speaking, communications and interpersonal skills

  • Experience with community organization and/or community development work

  • Experience with resource develop.

  • Experience working with the community

  • Experience in preparing reports, budgets and financial statements

  • Computer skills (e.g., Word, Excel, email, internet)

The following will be considered assets:

  • Prior experience working with ethnocultural-diverse communities

  • Other language(s),

  • Valid driver’s license

Hours and compensation:
37.5 hours per week, $36 000 plus FoodShare’s generous benefits package (some evenings and week-ends)

Contract position: June 2008 to June 2009
