FoodShare Toronto is seeking a passionate and creative

Field to Table Schools Climate Change Garden Program Development and Outreach Staff:

An educator to implement a food and climate change program– including the benefits of composting, supporting local food, organic gardening and the environmental value of trees, comfortable with public speaking and possessing a working knowledge of gardening, composting and community development for our Field to Table Schools program.

Detailed Job Description:

  • Work independently to develop 6 distinct workshops on the connections between food and climate change

  • Facilitate each of the 6 workshops at 10 schools across the GTA

  • Support and coordinate the development and design of 10 school gardens across the GTA

  • Recruit workshop participants

  • Provide assistance to local programs with program administration, resource development, volunteer recruitment and partnership connection

  • Develop a manual documenting the programs objectives and design

  • Liaise between community partners, school boards, teachers, parents, suppliers and other members of the school community

  • Promote the project at community events

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated interest and understanding of the relationship between food and climate change

  • Demonstrated interest in issues of food security and nutrition among children and youth

  • Experience gardening, cooking and composting

  • Experience with resource development

  • Ability to plan and facilitate workshops and meetings

  • Strong oral and written communication and administrative skills

  • Experience with community organizing and/or community development work

  • Experience working with a diverse group of people

  • Experience working with/in not for profit sector

  • Experience in preparing reports, budgets and financial statements

  • Computer literacy, including proficiency in Word, Excel, email, internet

  • Some evenings and weekends required

Hours and compensation: 37.5 hours per week, $36 000 plus FoodShare’s generous benefits package

Contract position: This position will run from June 2008 to June 2009
