Fundraising and Communications Manager Job Description

FoodShare Toronto, an award winning and innovative non-profit organization that promotes healthy, affordable and culturally appropriate food is seeking an energetic, detailed oriented and
well-organized Fundraising and Communications Manager with a minimum of five years of experience in direct mail, government and foundation fundraising and communications to manage a $600,000 a year direct mail campaign and $2,000,000 a year government and foundation grants campaign.

Main Responsibilities:            
To manage and report on FoodShare’s $600,000 direct mail campaign and FoodShare’s $2 million annual foundation and government grants campaign and its external communications.

Detailed Job Description:

  1. Manages and reports on FoodShare’s $600,000/year direct mail program from conception to acknowledgement, supported by the Executive Director in writing letters and designing packages.

  2. Manages, reports and writes the majority of the grants for FoodShare’s $2,000,000/year foundation and government campaign.

  3. Works closely with program staff and the Executive Director to maintain current funding levels for programs and raise new funds for all programs.

  4. Manages donor relations, develops all thank you and special letters and works closely with the Donor Relations and FoodLink Coordinator, ensuring all calls are satisfactorily answered and receipts are mailed in a timely fashion.

  5. Manages FoodShare’s external communications and communications consultant(s).

  6. Engages with donors in order to deepen their understanding and commitment to FoodShare’s mission (i.e. special events, casual meetings, phone calls)

  7. Prepares reports on fundraising goals and targets, including the yearly schedule of all foundation and government funding deadlines, working with key staff to ensure deadlines are met.

  8. Works with the Board Fundraising Committee to seek new sources of funding from corporations and as time permits and as funding is possible, manages staff hired to implement special events.

  9. Manages FoodShare’s Planned Giving Campaign, working with the Board of Directors to set up meetings for special asks to key donors.

  10. Participates in FoodShare staff and team meetings.

Reports to:                        Debbie Field, Executive Director
Salary in 2008:             $50,000 plus excellent benefits plans
